Athletic career

Hallbäck first played from 1917 for Malmö BI , which was founded in the same year. The sources currently do not reveal whether he was a founding member. For the club he played from 1924 with the introduction of the Allsvenskan and with it a nationwide new league system in the second highest division. In June 1926, the second division striker made his debut in the national team, scoring two goals in a 3-3 draw in a friendly against the national team of the German Reich in the Nuremberg Sports Park Zerzabelshof . Nevertheless, it took almost a year until his second international match, which brought him an entry in the history books: in the 12-0 victory on May 29, 1927 over the Latvian national team , he scored six goals. This success is on the one hand the highest international win for the Blågult to this day , on the other hand he was the most successful international goal scorer within a game. In the following three weeks he played two more games against Finland , in which he contributed two goals to the 6-2 success, and against Denmark , where he remained goalless in the 0-0 draw like all the other players.

Following the international matches, Hallbäck moved to local rival IFK Malmö , who had previously loaned him out for a tour of Germany - he had scored two goals in five games. At the end of the season he won the second-rate Sydsvenska series with the club and thus qualified for the promotion games to Allsvenskan, where they met Redbergslids IK . After each team had won their home game, the necessary play-off took place on a neutral pitch. In Stockholm, Malmö won 3-1, with the last two goals for his club Hallbäck made a decisive contribution to the promotion. Until he was relegated again in 1932, he ran in 74 first division games for the club and scored 30 goals in the Allsvenskan. In total, he had scored 49 goals for the club in 88 league games.
