Life and education

Albrecht Matuschka completed a bank apprenticeship at Warburg-Brinckmann, Wirtz . He then spent a few years in London at the bank SG Warburg & Co. as an employee of the founder Siegmund G. Warburg . Matuschka group

Development phase

In 1969 he became managing director of a company for asset management and asset advice . The company that he founded with his friend Rolf Christof Dienst was initially based in his own living space. A year later emerged from it with Werner Döttinger the TRV Trust Asset Management , based in Munich. The aim of the company was to look after the assets of wealthy families. The advantages over the banks established in this business were highlighted as independence, greater flexibility and increased innovative ability. It was also alleged that customer advice is not schematized, but tailored to the individual customer.

Venture capital

Matuschka and his partners discovered the venture capital market as an investment opportunity. This market segment had developed in the USA and Great Britain after the Second World War . In order to develop this financial market in Germany as well, 29 state and private credit institutions founded the "Deutsche Wagnisfinanzierungsgesellschaft (WFG)" in the mid- 1970s , which developed into an economic failure for several reasons in the following years. The TRV was initially involved in corresponding projects in the Anglo-Saxon region through US partners. This gave her experience in order to subsequently become active as a venture capital investor in Germany.

TVM

In 1983 the Matuschka Group founded the venture capital company "TVM Techno Venture Management GmbH & Co. KG" in Munich together with Siemens and other foreign partners. The partnership with Siemens has increased the awareness and reputation of the Matuschka Group in the financial world. Other German companies subsequently invested in the TVM fund. The TVM engagement developed successfully in the years to come.

Zenith and decline

The success of the Matuschka Group made it possible for Albrecht Matuschka to gain further partners for his expansion plans. The business press became increasingly aware of the Matuschka Group, especially because it positioned itself as an alternative to the traditional banking industry. The business areas were u. a. expanded to include asset advice for other target groups and mergers & acquisitions . In 1989 the Matuschka Group employed around 400 people and managed customer assets of five billion DM . However, the success was not sustainable. There was criticism of the performance of asset management and the management style of Albrecht Matuschka. Confidence in the financial world was increasingly damaged. Partners left the group of companies and started their own business. In order to avert the threat of bankruptcy in 1991 , key business areas were sold. In the following years the group of companies was liquidated.

Current state

Albrecht Graf Matuschka now offers services as a consultant and lecturer on topics related to the financial sector, but also beyond.
