Albrecht Ludwig von Groddeck (born August 25, 1837 in Danzig ; † July 18, 1887 in Clausthal ) was a German university professor and director of the Clausthal mining academy .

Life

He was the son of an admiralty council. His mother was a sister of the Prussian mining captain Martins. After graduating from high school in Danzig in 1856, von Groddeck embarked on a career in metallurgy , studied at the Collegium Carolinum in Brunswick and, after a practical year in the ironworks in Zorge , at the universities of Berlin and Breslau (with Ferdinand Roemer ) and from 1862 at the mountain school in Clausthal . In 1863 he passed the metallurgical engineering examination with distinction in Clausthal. A year later he became a teacher of mining and mineral processing at the Bergakademie. After Friedrich Adolph Roemer left in 1867, he also took over teaching mineralogy and geology . Initially entrusted with the interim management of the business, he was also appointed director of the academy in 1871. In 1867 he received his doctorate at the University of Göttingen (About the veins of the north-western Upper Harz). In 1872 he received the title of royal mountain ridge. In 1880 he gave up teaching in mining and mineral processing and in 1881 took over the teaching of ore deposits that was newly introduced in the curriculum.

His scientific focus was on deposit theory and the geology of the Harz (especially the northwestern part) and its veins. From him comes a geological map of the Harz that is excellent for his time , according to Kurt Mohr .
