Kurt Mohr (born April 23, 1926 in Helmbrechts ; † October 13, 2017 in Clausthal-Zellerfeld ) was a German geologist who dealt in particular with the geology of the Harz Mountains and published several books on it.

Life

After military service and imprisonment, Mohr studied geology from 1943 to 1945 with a diploma in 1956. He received his doctorate in 1959 at the University of Würzburg and then went to the Clausthal Mining Academy (today Clausthal University of Technology ), where he became a scientific assistant in 1961. In 1968 he completed his habilitation in Clausthal-Zellerfeld with the work on the palaeozoic development and lineal tectonics of the Harz, especially the western Harz , which was controversially discussed. In 1971 Mohr was appointed to the Academic Council, in 1974 to an extraordinary professor of geology and palaeontology and in 1975 to the Academic Senior Councilor. In 1978 he was appointed university professor for resin geology. He held this office until his retirement in 1991.

Mohr published widespread, also popular science books on the geology of the Harz Mountains. His main work is the geology and mineral deposits of the Harz Mountains .
