Albrecht Leopold Wilhelm Burgrave and Count zu Dohna-Schlodien (born April 29, 1764 in Polkwitz , † December 30, 1813 in Schweidnitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant colonel and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

origin

Albrecht zu Dohna came from an originally imperial direct, noble-free noble family, which, divided into numerous lines, still exists today. He himself belonged to the Silesian branch of the Dohna-Schlodien line and was a son of Wilhelm Christoph Gottlob zu Dohna (1724–1787) on Mallwitz and Kotzenau and his wife Friederike, née Countess von Reichenbach (1740–1814). His grandfather was the Prussian Lieutenant General Wilhelm Alexander von Dohna-Schlodien (1695–1749).

Military career

As usual with second-borns, Dohna chose the soldier profession. He became an infantry officer and at the outbreak of the First Coalition War stood on foot as Prime Lieutenant in the Koethen Regiment and in June 1793 he was first adjutant to Lieutenant General von Knobelsdorf. On June 21, 1793, he turned to King Friedrich Wilhelm II from the camp in Cysoing with the request that Albrecht zu Dohna be awarded the order Pour le Mérite. .... I dare ... to ask very humbly to give the same order to my First Adjutant, Count zu Dohna, most graciously, since this officer shows a tireless zeal, a glorious activity and the most expedient application throughout the campaign has proven .... and with several war events by personal bravery and insight militairische be advantageous distinguished ... . The king reacted promptly: on June 26, 1793, he awarded Albrecht zu Dohna the medal with the highest cabinet order. ... After your application of the 21st of December, I authorize that you, your adjutants, can decorate the Count zu Dohna with the medal plm ...

Dohna was promoted to lieutenant colonel and commandant of the Schweidnitz fortress . He died there on December 30, 1813.

family

Albrecht zu Dohna was married twice. While the first marriage with Helene Eckenberg remained childless, he had five daughters with his second wife Elise von Beneckendorf .
