Alburnus akili (Turkish common name : Gökçe balığı) is a most likely extinct species of fish from the carp family (Cyprinidae). It wasnative to Beyşehir Gölü (Beyşehir Lake) in Anatolia .

features

Alburnus akili usually reached a total length of 13 to 16 cm, rarely 20 to 25 cm and a weight of 40 to 50 g. The more or less elongated body was covered with shiny scales. The dorsal fin started behind the line of the pelvic fins. The lower jaw was longer than the upper jaw, which gave the mouth a sloping appearance. The back was blue or green, the sides and belly silvery with a metallic sheen. The fins were almost colorless.

distribution and habitat

Alburnus akili inhabited the open water of Lake Beyşehir. Another population occurred briefly in Suğla Gölü near Seydişehir , which is connected to Beyşehir Lake via the Çarşamba Canal.

status

The IUCN lists Alburnus Akili in category "extinct" ( extinct ). The decline started in 1955 when the pikeperch ( sander lucioperca ) was introduced into Lake Beyşehir. At the same time, the decimated stocks of Alburnus akili were replenished with the closely related species Alburnus escherichii , which led to a hybridization of the two species. The Aussterbezeitpunkt of Alburnus Akili or its hybrids was probably the end of the 1990s after a final proof in 1998. In the past, this type was, so also an important food fish for the residents of Beyşehir Lake overfishing to the decline of Alburnus Akili contributed could have.
