Aldo Bahamonde Rojas (born May 14, 1963 in Santiago de Chile ) is a painter and sculptor of Chilean descent who has lived in Spain since 1984.

Life

Bahamonde was born in 1963 in Santiago de Chile to William and Norma Bahamonde. His talent for painting was recognized very early on. At the age of 21 he moved to Spain to advance his career. He studied there from 1985 to 1988 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University in Madrid . He was also a student of the painter Guillermo Muñoz Vera. In 1991 Bahamonde's first daughter was born. In 1994 he moved to Tenerife , where he created more than 40 works, including oil paintings, drawings and sculptures. From 1998 to 2005 he worked with the Art Museum in Torrelaguna . In 2008 he donated a painting of President Salvador Allende to the Presidential Palace of Chile .

Bahamonde's work mainly includes oil paintings and charcoal drawings , on which he mostly depicts people, as well as landscapes and still lifes . Sometimes he reproduces his motifs realistically, sometimes in a surreal style. He mainly uses subdued, light colors.

Bahamonde has been exhibiting regularly since 1988, especially in Madrid. In 1989 he had a solo exhibition there in the Galería Figuras. In 1991 he took part in the traveling group exhibition Arte Joven de Chile (young art from Chile), which was shown in Granada and Madrid, among others. In 1992 he showed his works in the Centro Cultural de las Rozas, together with Raul Eberhard (* 1955), also a painter who was born in Chile and works in Spain. Bahamonde took part in two group exhibitions at the Museo de América in Madrid. First in 2004 at Imagen de un Centenario NERUDA , at which Spanish and Chilean artist Pablo Neruda performed , then in 2005 at an exhibition on Chilean painters from the second half of the twentieth century. Bahamonde's painting Crucificado ("crucified") is in the permanent exhibition of the Museu Europeu d'Art Modern in Barcelona .
