Aldo Vagnozzi

Aldo Vagnozzi (born October 4, 1925 in Roseto , Italy , † March 22, 2009 in Farmington Hills , Michigan ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) from the state of Michigan.

Vagnozzi was born in Italy but later moved to the United States. In 1943 he left college to serve as a soldier in World War II . He served in Italy, where he worked as an interpreter for Italian prisoners of war. In 1946 he took part in the repatriation of the prisoners. In the same year he finished his service with the rank of sergeant. Vagnozzi returned to college and attended Wayne State University . There he graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism. While in college, he edited the award-winning Daily Collegian . After college, he was editor of Michigan State AFL-CIO News and Detroit Labor News .

Vagnozzi was a member of the Farmington School Board from 1969 to 1973 . In 1987 he was elected to Farmington Hills City Council; from 1995 to 1999 he was mayor. Vagnozzi ran unsuccessfully in the 2000 election for the Michigan House of Representatives : with 48 percent of the vote, he was defeated by Republican Andrew Raczkowski , who received 52 percent. In 2002 he started again and won with 52 percent of the vote against Republican Valerie Knol. In 2004 and 2006 he was re-elected with a clear majority. In the State House he represented the 37th constituency, which is located in Oakland County and includes the cities of Farmington Hills and Farmington . Vagnozzi, he was a member of parliament's influential grant committee. In the 1992 presidential election he sat for Michigan in the Electoral College , which elected Democrat Bill Clinton as the new US president.

Aldo Vagnozzi was married to Lois Carl until her death in 1999. They had four children and seven grandchildren. He was a member of St. Alexander's Catholic Church. Vagnozzi died on March 22, 2009 of complications from cancer.
