Aleksandar Djuric

Aleksandar Djuric (born August 2,  1982 in Bregenz ) is a former Austrian basketball player of Serbian  descent.

career

Djuric, who began playing basketball in Hard in Vorarlberg , played for the Bundesliga club Kapfenberg from 1999 , was three times Austrian champion with the team and is regarded as one of the greatest talents in European basketball. In 2003 he was a candidate in the National Basketball Association's draft process , but was ultimately not taken from any team. He recommended himself with strong performances for a contract with Red Star Belgrade - the change took place in 2003. After a year in Belgrade, the 2.10 meter tall indoor player was signed by the German Bundesliga club Telekom Baskets Bonn in the run-up to the 2004/05 game .

At the beginning of the 2005/06 season Djuric was in Greece with the first division club Apollon Patras in the squad, but left the team at the end of 2005 and moved to the Ukraine to Khimik-OPZ Juschni. He played for the club until 2008. After further stints in the Ukraine (Politekhnika-Halychyna Lwiw) and Cyprus (Achilleas Kaimakliou) Djuric came back to Austria in 2010 and strengthened the Bundesliga club Güssing Knights from 2010 to October 2012 . In January 2012 he was appointed to Austria's national team for the first time. After an Achilles tendon injury healed, he was initially signed by the Fürstenfeld Panthers during the 2013 summer break  , but then joined the second division club DC Timberwolves in Vienna in autumn 2013 . In December 2013 he ended his playing career.

In January 2014, he switched to the Viennese association Basket2000 as a trainer, where he was involved in youth work. In the same year he went to the Traiskirchen Lions and worked for the club in the youth sector until 2016, as a coach of the regional league team and as an assistant coach of the Bundesliga team. Djuric started working full-time  as a childcare worker for the city of Traiskirchen on September 1, 2017 . In June 2018 he became the head coach of the second division team Mattersburg Rocks , but gave up the post before the start of the 2018/19 season for reasons of time.
