Apollon Patras ( Greek Απόλλων Πάτρας ) is a Greek basketball team from Patras .
history
The association, founded in 1947 in the Peloponnese , is one of the most historic in Greece . As the first club that is not based in Athens or Thessaloniki , Patras made it into the A1 league at the time, the top division in the country, and qualified for a European competition.
Since their first ascent, the team has been a permanent member of the Basket League with minor interruptions. Only in the years 1999 to 2003 did they have to do without first-class basketball in Patras because the team was relegated to the A2 league.
In 1996, 1997 and 2004 the club qualified for the final four tournament for the Greek Cup . In 1996, the Apollon finished the tournament in third place. In the following year they reached the final and lost just 78-80 to the eventual winner of the European Cup of National Champions Olympiacos Piraeus . In 2015 Patras moved into the final of the cup again, but lost to the Greek record cup winner Panathinaikos Athens with 53-68.
Venue
Patras plays his home games in the Klisto tis Perivolas sports hall . This is located on the south-eastern outskirts of Patras and holds 3,500 spectators.
Although the club has its own modern sports hall, it played its home games over a longer period in the “Dimitrios Tofalos” hall, which can hold 4,600 spectators. The reason for this were quarrels within the association that forced Apollon to move.
