Kolossos Rhodes is a Greek basketball team, which is based on the island of Rhodes . Kolossos currently plays in the A1 Ethniki , the first Greek league.

history

The club was founded in 1963 and initially also served sports such as athletics , volleyball and cycling . Judo was also offered in the early 1980s . Over time, however, the individual departments lost their importance. Today the whole focus of the club is on the basketball department .

The geographically remote location as well as the limited financial resources did not allow the club to play a special role in Greek basketball for years. The club was able to win a number of regional tournaments, but outside of the Dodecanese hardly anyone noticed Colossus. However, this changed in 1976. As the first team, which was based in the Aegean Sea , they rose to the B Ethniki of Greece, which is the third highest division. In the following years the history of the club was marked by frequent relegations and promotions.

2000 Kostas Kostaridis became the new president. Kostaridis exchanged almost the entire club management and stated promotion to the A2 Ethniki as the club's goal. Charis Papazoglou, who four years earlier had won European championships with Panathinaikos Athens as assistant coach under Bozidar Maljkovic, was signed as coach . With him one managed the safe ascent to the B Ethniki .

In 2003 the coach Vasilios Frangias, who was active in Cyprus , was committed. Under his leadership, the association rose to the A2 Ethniki in 2004. In 2005 the club secured the championship in the A2 Ethniki and thus rose to the highest Greek league.

The club's most successful season so far in A1 Ethniki was in the 2011/12 season, when the regular season ended with third place in the table. In the following play-offs, the club was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Panathinaikos.

In the summer of 2019, AE Holargos merged with Klub Kolossos and was incorporated into it.
