Nikolaos "Nikos" Vetoulas ( Greek Νικόλαος «Νίκος» Βετούλας , born February 6, 1974 in Patras , Greece ) is a Greek basketball coach and former player.

Career as a player

At the sports club Panachaiki , Vetoulas played in his youth on the position of soccer goalkeeper before he switched to the academies of the basketball section within the club. He started his professional career when he joined Apollon Patras when he signed a five-year contract. With Apollon Vetoulas also played on the international stage and reached with the club in the 1996/97 season the entry into the round of 16 of the then Eurocup competition as well as the round of 16 of the Korać Cup for the 1998/99 season . He had also experienced his greatest sporting success up to that point in 1997 when he and Patras had reached the final of the Greek Cup competition in which the Peloponnesian club was only slightly defeated by league rivals Olympiacos with 78:80 points .

After the end of his contract in Patras, the Guard moved to the 1999/2000 season for league rivals PAOK Saloniki with whom he was able to reach the final of the Greek championship in which the Macedonian representative of series champion Panathinaikos was defeated with 0: 3 sets. Between 2000 and 2003 Vetoulas played for Near East and Ionikos Nea Philadelphia before he put on the shirt of Aris Saloniki for the 2003/04 season to celebrate his first professional title of his career. At the side of players like Alexandros Kiritsis , Nestoras Kommatos and Smush Parker , the northern Greek club in Lamia had beaten Olympiakos with 73:70 points.

After this success, Vetoulas had continued his career abroad and signed a two-year contract in Serie A with Snaidero Cucine Udine . For the 2006/07 season he returned to Greece and had placed himself in the service of AEK Athens before he left it in January 2007 to spend the rest of the season at CB Murcia in Spain . He then returned to Italy and spent another season in Udine before declaring his active career over.

Career as a coach

Vetoulas gained his first experience as a trainer as assistant manager in the 2008/09 season at Aris Saloniki. In the 2009/10 season he took over the coaching position at the then third division Apollon Patras in the second half of the season, with whom he was promoted to the second division, the A2 Ethniki. For the 2012/13 season , Vetoulas then led Apollon back to the House of Lords. This two times in a row up to the playoffs for the Greek championship and in the 2014/15 season up to the cup final . After internal disagreements, however, Vetoulas announced a few days later that the regular season would be leaving the club after the end of the season.
