Aleksander Ryabov

Aleksander Rjabov (born August 28, 1928 in Tallinn ; †  August 27, 2005 ) was an Estonian conductor and clarinetist .

Life and music

Aleksander Rjabov completed his studies in clarinet at the Tallinn State Conservatory with Juhan Kaljaspoolik in 1956 . From 1956 to 1975 Rjabov was clarinetist with the Symphony Orchestra of the Estonian Radio , the later Estonian State Symphony Orchestra ( Estonian Eesti Riiklik Sümfooniaorkester ). In 1956 he founded the orchestra for light music at the Estonian Radio .

From 1974 to 2001 Rjabov taught music in Tallinn and was increasingly active as a conductor. He has led numerous music ensembles and big bands .

Ryabov's jazz career began in the 1950s. He was a co-founder of the "Swing Club" formation, which was tolerated by the Soviet authorities. He brought in the early 1960s of experience in Finland to Bossa Nova to Estonia. Musical partners were in particular Uno Loop and Marju Kuut . In 1976 Rjabov founded the band "Synthesis", which dedicated itself to both classical and jazz music.

Rjabov remained one of the most famous Estonian jazz interpreters until his death . He died the day before his 77th birthday.

Awards

In 1989 Aleksander Rjabov was awarded the title of "Honored Artist of the Estonian SSR ".
