Alexander Andreevich Bodisko

Alexander Andrejewitsch Bodisko ( Russian Александр Андреевич Бодиско ; born October 18, 1786 in Saint Petersburg , † January 11, 1854 in Georgetown , Washington, DC ) was a Russian diplomat and ambassador to the United States.

Life

Bodisko's parents were Anna-Ivanovna Gorgona de Saint Paul (* 1770) and Andrei Andrejewitsch Bodisko (1753-1819). His siblings were Vladimir, Konstantin ( major at customs ), Jacob (1794–1876), Charlotte (* 1795), Boris (1801–1828), Michael Andrejewitsch ( Decembrist 1803–1867), Anne and Elisabeth (* 1800). Bodisko married Margarita Shotl in his first marriage. After she died, he married Harriet Beall Brooks Williams (* 1824) in 1840.

Alexander Bodisko entered the foreign service of Tsar Paul I in April 1799 . He attended the Foreign Affairs College as a cadet . From 1812 to 1836 he was accredited as a delegation counselor to the Russian embassies in Sweden and Norway. Bodisko became Chamberlain and from 1837 until his death he was Ambassador Nicholas I in the USA. He was accredited in April 1839 Secretary and after the death of the Messenger d'affaires appointed. In the USA he mediated the help of the Tsar against attempts at British expansion in the north.
