Alessandro Gamberini (born August 27, 1981 in Bologna ) is a former Italian football player . He played in the position of defender .
Career
In the club
Gamberini started his career in his hometown with FC Bologna . Here he then played for three seasons. However, since he could not earn a regular place, he was loaned to Hellas Verona for the 2002/03 season. After one season he returned to Bologna, where he stayed for another two seasons. At the end of the 2004/05 season , FC Bologna relegated to Serie B , and Gamberini moved to his current club, Fiorentina , where he managed to secure a regular place despite strong competition. For the 2013/14 season , Gamberini was awarded to CFC Genoa , and since 2014 he has played for Chievo Verona .
In the national team
Gamberini was Italy's junior international and took part in the 2004 European Championship in Germany with his country's U-21s .
In 2006 he was appointed to the Italian national team by Marcello Lippi and after the World Cup by Roberto Donadoni . However, he was not granted an assignment. It was not until October 17, 2007 that he was allowed to represent the colors of his team in the 2-0 win in the friendly against South Africa on the field.
For the European Football Championship 2008 Gamberini was originally not nominated. Only an injury to Fabio Cannavaro enabled him to later call to the squad of the Squadra Azzurra .
