Alex Hannig (born October 21, 1897 in Concepción , † February 17, 1987 in Santiago de Chile , full name: Alex Hannig-Ulriksen ) was a Chilean athlete of German descent and participant in the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam .

Alex Hannig was together with José Vicente Salinas the best Chilean runner of his time and also participated in South American championships . His greatest success was his participation in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam in the 200- and 400-meter run, where he was eliminated after the heats. Alex Hannig was born in Chile in 1897, then moved to Berlin with his family in 1906 and experienced the First World War in Germany . He was drafted into the military in Berlin in 1917 as a youth soldier. His father, Stanislaus Hannig, a German civil engineer who had lived in Chile from 1886 to 1906, died in Berlin during the war in 1917. Alex Hannig returned to Chile in 1921. From 1932 to 1963 he was an entrepreneur and businessman, including general representative and importer of BMW Munich for Chile. Hannig died in 1987 at the age of 90 in Santiago de Chile.

Many lists of participants from the 1928 Olympics are circulating on the Internet, but most of them have had a transmission error and a "Rudolf Hannig" is given in the 200 and 400 meter heats. But there was never a “Rudolf Hannig”, right is: Alex Hannig. In some lists, “A. Hannig ”in the 200 and 400 meters.
