Alexandar Panaiotow Alexandrow ( Bulgarian Александър Панайотов Александров ; born December 1, 1951 in Omurtag , Targovishte Oblast , Bulgaria ) is the second Bulgarian cosmonaut .

Alexandrov was on the replacement crew for the first Bulgarian space flight with Soyuz 33 . Since the Soyuz spaceship could not dock with the Salyut 6 space station as planned due to technical problems , the mission was canceled and the first Bulgarian spaceman Georgi Ivanov returned to Earth after only 47 hours in space . As part of the Interkosmos program for the participating nations the cosmonauts had to stay for one week, the flight was made up later with Soyuz TM-5 .

Alexandrov's flight with Soyuz TM-5 together with commander Anatoly Solovyov and flight engineer Viktor Savinych to the Soviet Mir space station took place between June 7th and 17th, 1988.

Alexandrov should not be confused with the Soviet cosmonaut Alexander Alexandrov , who returned to Earth from the Mir space station in December 1987, five months before his Bulgarian namesake's flight.
