Alexander of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg

Duke Alexander von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg (born January 20, 1573 in Sønderborg ; † May 13, 1627 ibid) was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg branch line from the House of Oldenburg .

Life

Alexander was the third son of Duke Johann von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg (1545–1622) and his first wife, Princess Elisabeth von Braunschweig-Grubenhagen (1550–1586), daughter of Duke Ernst III. and Princess Margarethe von Pommern-Wolgast (1518–1569). His paternal grandfather was the Danish - Norwegian King Christian III. In the vicinity of Löhne he acquired the Gut Haus Beck belonging to the diocese of Minden .

After his death, the duchy was divided among his married sons and further branches of the house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg were established.

On November 26, 1604, Duke Alexander married Princess Dorothea von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (1579–1639), daughter of Count Johann Günther I and Anna von Oldenburg, in Schwarzburg . The marriage had ten children:
