Alexander Weniaminowitsch Abuschachmetow ( Russian Александр Вениаминович Абушахметов ; born July 21, 1954 in Bishkek , Kyrgyz SSR ; † June 10, 1996 in Moscow ) was a Kyrgyz sword fighter who competed for the Soviet Union.
successes
Alexander Abuschachmetow was internationally successful, especially with the Soviet team. At world championships he first won bronze in Buenos Aires in 1977 and silver in Hamburg the following year . 1979 in Melbourne he became world champion with the team. Abushachmetov took part in two Olympic Games . In 1976 he finished fifth with the team in Montreal , but did not get past 26th in the individual. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , he finished ninth in the individual competition. In the team competition, the Soviet Union reached with Abuschachmetow the battle for third place against Romania , which was won 9: 5. Abuschachmetow won bronze together with Aschot Karagjan , Boris Lukomski , Alexander Moschajew and Vladimir Smirnow .
