Alexander Ferdinand of Velen

Alexander Ferdinand von Velen (* May 4, 1699 at Velen Castle ; † March 30, 1745 in Hasselt Monastery ) was canon in Münster.

Alexander Ferdinand von Velen grew up as the son of Christoph Alexander von Velen and his wife Maria Dorothea Margaretha von Schenking zu Bevern († 1703) together with his brothers Hermann Anton Bernhard and Friedrich Christian in the Westphalian noble family von Velen .

With the receipt of the tonsure on October 25, 1711 Alexander Ferdinand was prepared for a spiritual life. From 1715 to 1721 he studied in Rome . In 1726 he received a cathedral praise in Münster after his brother Hermann Anton Bernhard had renounced. Because of his mental illness he had to retire and was looked after by the Alexians in Hasselt Monastery, where he also died.
