Alexander Forbes, 1st Lord Forbes (* around 1380, † 1448 ) was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

He was the eldest son and heir of Sir John Forbes († 1406), Lord of Forbes and Justiciar and Coroner of Aberdeenshire . When his father died, he inherited his estate and became chief of Clan Forbes .

In 1407 he traveled to England with three other Scottish knights to play a tournament against four English knights.

In 1411 he fought in the Battle of Harlaw , in which he supported the regent Robert Stewart, 1st Duke of Albany against Donald MacDonald, Lord of the Isles . In the following years he was able to expand his possessions to the entire feudal barony of Forbes.

In 1419 he belonged to the Scottish armed forces that were sent to France to support the Dauphin and later King Charles VII of France against the English and distinguished himself in the Battle of Baugé in 1421. Shortly thereafter, he traveled to England, where he visited the Scottish King James I , who was in captivity there , and whom he finally escorted home in 1424.

At an unknown time after 1436 he was raised as Lord Forbes to Lord of Parliament . A document dated July 12, 1442 proves that he already held the title at this point in time.

Marriage and offspring

In October 1423 he married Lady Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of George Douglas, 1st Earl of Angus and maternal granddaughter of Roberts III. of Scotland . He had six children with her:
