Alexander Georgievich Martyshkin

Alexander Georgijewitsch Martyshkin ( Russian Александр Георгиевич Мартышкин ; born August 26, 1943 in Moscow ) is a former Soviet rower who won seven international medals with the Soviet eighth medal from 1965 to 1973 : one Olympic bronze medal and two world championship silver medals three bronze medals at European championships.

Athletic career

The international career of 1.89 great Alexander Martyshkin began at the European Championships in 1965 . There the Soviet eight won the silver medal behind the Germany eight . The following year, the Germany eight also won the 1966 World Championships in Bled ahead of the Soviet boat. The following year Martyshkin rowed eighth at the European Championships in 1967 to third place behind the boats from Germany and the United States. After he was not part of the Soviet eighth in 1969, Martyshkin was back at the 1970 World Championships in St. Catharines . The Soviet eight won the silver medal behind the boat from the GDR. The following year, the boat from New Zealand won the European Championships in 1971, ahead of the aft from the GDR and the Soviet Union. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the New Zealanders also won, behind them the US eighth won silver in front of the boat from the GDR.
