Juozas Jagelavičius
Juozas Jagelavičius in German sources also Josanas Jagelavičius ( Russian Йозас Александрович Ягелавичюс * 12. January 1939 in Džiuginėnai , Telšiai District Municipality , Lithuania ; † 17th June 2000 in Vilnius , Lithuanian SSR ) was a Soviet rowers .
Athletic career
The 1.87 m tall Juozas Jagelavičius from Žalgiris Vilnius won his first international medal at the first rowing world championships , which were held in Lucerne in 1962 . With the Soviet eighth , he finished second behind the Germany eighth . The Soviet eighth also won the silver medal behind the Germans at the European rowing championships in 1963 and 1964. With fifth place in eighth, the 1964 Olympic Games were Jagelavičius' only medalless international rowing championship until 1969.
In 1965 Wolodymyr Sterlyk , Antanas Bagdonavičius , Zigmas Jukna and Juozas Jagelavičius changed from eighth to four without a helmsman and won gold in this boat class at the European Championships in 1965 and World Championship silver in 1966 behind the boat from the GDR . In 1967 the four rowers with helmsman Juri Lorenzson won the European championship in the four with helmsman . After bronze in the eighth behind the Germany eighth and the Australians at the 1968 Olympic Games , Jagelavičius again won the European championship silver in 1969 behind the GDR eighth.
