Alexander Joseph Daiwaille

Alexander Joseph Daiwaille (born January 21, 1818 in Amsterdam , Kingdom of the Netherlands , † 1888 in Brussels , Kingdom of Belgium ) was a Dutch portrait and landscape painter .

Life

Alexander Joseph Daiwaille was the son of the painter Jean Augustin Daiwaille ; his sister was the painter Elise Thérèse Daiwaille . Like his father, he initially specialized in portraiture, but later also painted landscapes. He traveled to the Netherlands and Germany for his motifs, including Hilversum (1833–1834), Kleve (1834–1835), Nijmegen (1835–1836), The Hague (1836–1839) and again Kleve (1840–1848). In Kleve he worked with his brother-in-law, the landscape painter Barend Cornelis Koekkoek . Daiwaille settled in Brussels in 1849, where he lived until his death in 1888.

In 1839 he was awarded the prize of the exhibition Tentoonstelling van Levende Meesters . In 1847 he received a silver medal for a landscape depiction from the artists' association "Felix Meritis" (Amsterdam). In 1848 he sold two of his landscapes to King Wilhelm II of the Netherlands .
