Alexander Milstein ( Russian Александр Моисеевич Мильштейн ., Scientific transliteration Aleksandr Moiseevic Mil'štein , Ukrainian Олександр Мойсейович Мільштейн Oleksandr Mojsejovyč Mil'štejn * 8. September 1963 in Kharkiv , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian writer (writes in Russian ) Translators as well as visual artists , including illustrations for own works.

Life

After completing his studies at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the National W. N. Karasin University of Kharkiv , Milstein worked as a research assistant in research, but even then began to write his first stories . Today he lives exclusively as a writer and visual artist. He has lived in Munich since 1995 .

Works

Writer and translator

Alexander Milstein has so far published three volumes of short stories and five novels in Russian.

In 2009 his Russian translation of the volume of short stories Sommerhaus, later (Russian Letni dom, possche ) by Judith Hermann, was published by OGI. Further translations from German ( Uwe Kopf , Christian Kracht , Julia Franck , Judith Hermann) and Ukrainian ( Serhij Schadan ) have been published in magazines and almanacs as well as on the Internet.

German translations of his works appeared in Der Freund in 2005 and in the Süddeutsche Zeitung in 2006 .

His novel Parallelnaja Akzija was shortlisted for the NOS literature prize in 2014 and was one of the finalists for the “Russkaja premija” literary prize in 2015.

In 2018 Milstein took part in the fourth German-Ukrainian writers' meeting “A Paper Bridge” in Mariupol, Ukraine.

Visual artist

Milstein has been drawing and painting in various media since March 2013. In March 2016 his first solo exhibition Rays and Other Letters took place at SDI Munich . As part of the project “A Bridge made of Paper”, his exhibition Okna w Pjatipol (“Window to Pjatipol”) was on view in 2017 at 32 Vozdvizhenka Arts House in Kiev .
