Alexander Mosby Clayton

Alexander Mosby Clayton (born January 15, 1801 in Campbell County , Virginia , † September 30, 1889 near Lamar , Benton County , Mississippi ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Clayton served as Justice of the Arkansas Territorial Supreme Court in 1832 . He was then from 1842 to 1852 and again from 1866 to 1869 judge in Mississippi. He was also US consul in Havana in 1853 . In 1861 he first represented Mississippi at its Secession Convention and later in the Provisional Confederate Congress . In the same year he also served as a confederate district judge. In 1876 he represented Mississippi at the Democratic National Convention .

He died near Lamar, Mississippi in 1889 and was subsequently buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs .
