history

Kazakhstan's history in rugby union is quite young. The first international game of a national team did not take place until 1994. The game against Georgia ended in a 5-17 defeat.

In the first qualifying round for the Rugby Union World Cup 2003 , the team had to compete with China and Sri Lanka , with the first game against the Chinese lost at 15:57. Thus the win with 20:14 against Sri Lanka could not help the team and the Kazakh selection was eliminated.

The team signed up to qualify for the 2007 Rugby Union World Cup . After three wins against India with 36:22, against Malaysia with 48: 3 and against Guam with 51: 6, the team became group winners. In a decisive comparison against the other group winners Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan achieved a 25:19 success and a 12:24 defeat and was eliminated early in the qualification.

In November 2007, the Kazakh selection won the last Asian Cup held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In the final, the hosts were defeated with 24:19. However, the team benefited from the absence of the Japanese. Thus, Kazakhstan was the last Asian champion before the Asian Five Nations replaced the Asian championship in 2008. With this victory, the Kazakh team reached 32nd place in the world rankings .

Kazakhstan participated in the 2008 Asian Five Nations . The team finished fourth after three defeats and one win against Arabia with 56:27. Against Japan there was the highest defeat in the history of Kazakh rugby with 6:82. The Kazakh goalkeeper Maxim Lifontov became the tournament's best scorer with 55 points.

With fourth place, Kazakhstan qualified for the Asian Five Nations 2009 . Against Japan there was another historic defeat at 10:87. In the second game, however, the team caused a surprise by beating the favored South Koreans in Almaty by 30:27, so the Kazakh team climbed to 29th place in the world rankings, which was the best placement in the history of the Kazakhstani Rugby meant. After successes in Singapore with 22:19 and in the Almaty Central Stadium against Hong Kong with 25: 6, the team reached second place in the A5N 2009 and took 27th place in the world rankings.

At the Asian Five Nations 2010 the Kazakh team suffered two defeats against Japan 7: 101 and against Hong Kong 15:19. In addition, Arabia were beaten by 43:28 and South Korea by 32:25. As a result, the team reached second place in the final table and 25th place in the world rankings, which means the highest ranking in the history of Kazakh rugby. With this second place, the team qualified for the playoffs of the Barrage round, the winner of which is allowed to participate in the 2011 World Cup. On July 17, 2010, the team in Montevideo lost to the favored team from Uruguay with 7:44 and was eliminated from qualification.
