The Moldovan national rugby union team represents the Republic of Moldova in the sport of rugby union . It belongs to the third class of strength ( third tier ). In 1993 a Moldovan national rugby team played for the first time in an international match. Previously, the team played as part of the Soviet Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States . The team plays in Division 1B of the European Nations Cup . So far, the Moldovans have not yet qualified for a world championship.

history

In 1936 the Rugby Union Federation of the Soviet Union was founded. Until 1991 the Moldovan team was part of this association. On October 10, 1993, the Moldovan national team played the first official game in its history against Lithuania , which was won 22: 6.

The team missed the World Cup in France . In the second round, the team in Group B took second place behind Germany and thus advanced. In the third qualifying round Moldova lost three victories against Spain , finished second in Group A and were eliminated.
