The Luxembourg national rugby union team represents Luxembourg in the sport of rugby union . She plays in the 2D division of the European Nations Cup and has not yet qualified for a world championship. Luxembourg is the world governing body the International Rugby Board in the third strength class ( third tier divided).
The sport of rugby was introduced in 1973 in Luxembourg, and since 1976 the country has been a member of the European association FIRA . Luxembourg played their first international match against Belgium in 1975 and lost 28: 6. Since 1991 one has been a member of the IRB and since then has also participated in the qualification for the World Cup tournaments.
The country's two clubs, Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL) and Rugby Club Walferdange (RCW), play their games in other countries, as Luxembourg does not have its own league. The RCL currently plays in the 1st Bundesliga in Germany and has previously played in France and for years in the first Belgian league. The RCW is part of the third Belgian league and, in contrast to the RCL, focuses primarily on young local players.
