The Thailand national rugby union team represents Thailand in rugby union . The team is classified as a third category national team by the International Rugby Board (IRB).

history

The first international match of a Thai national rugby union team took place on January 18, 1970 against Japan . They lost with 11:42. Game operations were maintained until the late 1970s. This was followed by ten years in which there was no international match with Thai participation. International matches were not played again until 1988.

It has been participating in qualifying for the Rugby Union World Cup since 1995 . So far it has not been enough for a successful qualification, one failed in the first qualifying round. Since 2008 they have been part of the Asian Five Nations , the unofficial Asian Cup. In the first edition, they defeated India and Malaysia and thus managed to move up to the first division, which is located directly below the top division. The team lost the World Cup qualifier against Arabia the following year and was eliminated in the second round.
