The team missed the World Cup in France , as the Singaporeans lost in the third division after a success against Thailand with 47:27, against Sri Lanka with 17:34 and thus eliminated in second.

The team was the winner of the first division of the Asian Five Nations 2008 , a draw against Sri Lanka with 20:20 and a win against Taiwan with 23:22 were enough. With this success the team qualified for the elite class of the Asian Five Nations 2009 .

In the elite class, all four games against Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea and Hong Kong were lost, as a result of which the team had to be relegated to the first division.
