Alexander P. Hansen (born December 11, 1958 in Jülich ) is a German biologist and science manager.

Life

Hansen studied from 1980 to 1982 at Washington State University (USA), where he obtained a Master of Science degree in environmental science . From 1977 to 1980 and 1982 to 1983 he studied in Bonn at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität and graduated with a diploma in geography . He received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biology from the University of Western Australia (Australia) in 1987 . From 1987 to 1993 he was a research assistant at the Australian National University (Australia), Murdoch University (Australia) and the University of Hohenheim at the Institute for Plant Nutrition. As a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , he conducted research at the National Agriculture Research Center in Tsukuba Science City in Japan in 1989 and 1990 . From 1993 to 2002 he pursued a career as a science manager at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the German Research Foundation . In 2002 he was appointed advisor to the Indonesian Research Minister Hatta Rajasa and his successor Dr. Kusmayanto Kadiman appointed to the State Ministry for Research and Technology (RISTEK) in Jakarta (Indonesia). During this time he coordinated a. a. on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to set up the tsunami early warning system ( GITEWS ) in Indonesia. From 2010 to 2013 he worked as a consultant in Paris for the UNESCO associated organizations ICSU and ISSC. On behalf of the German Foreign Office , Hansen headed the German Science and Innovation House (DWIH) in New Delhi from 2013 to 2016. His focus was on the interlinking of companies and universities in the field of research and innovation with a view to German, Indian and international markets. Since 2017 he has been working as a consultant, editor and author in the field of international university development.

Research and Teaching

Plant physiological research topics form the focus of his work. In particular, he acquired expertise in the field of biological nitrogen fixation in legumes / rhizobia symbioses of soybeans ( Glycine max ), haricot beans ( Phaseolus vulgaris ), peanuts ( Arachis hypogaea ) and various shrub legumes such as Acacia pulchella , Acacia alata or Acacia extensa . He wrote magazine articles on these topics. In addition, Hansen published review articles in the form of book contributions. He is the editor and author of international books and reviews, including a. on the development of the international higher education sector as well as on science policy issues.

In addition to his research activities, Hansen taught at the University of Western Australia , the Australian National University , Murdoch University , the University of Hohenheim and later as part of his professorship at Amity University in Noida ( India ).
