Alexander Sauli (born February 15, 1534 in Milan , Italy , † October 11, 1593 in Calosso , Asti province , Italy) was an Italian bishop and saint .

Alexander Sauli, who came from a respected noble family who moved from Lucca to Genoa at the beginning of the 14th century , became a member of the Order of Barnabite in 1554 and was ordained priest in 1556 . In 1560 he obtained a doctorate in theology. In Pavia he worked from 1563 as a professor of philosophy and theology . In 1567 Sauli was elected General of the Order , in February 1570 he was appointed Bishop of Aleria in Corsica , where he is also known as the “Apostle of Corsica” because of his successful work. In 1591 Alexander Sauli took over the office of bishop in Pavia . He died during a visitation trip in Calosso d'Asti.

Alexander Sauli was beatified by Pope Benedict XIV (1740–1758) in 1741 and canonized on December 11, 1904 by Pope Pius X (1903–1914) . He is considered the patron saint of Corsica, Pavia and Genoa.
