Alexander Trennheuser , b. Slonka , (* 1980 in Leverkusen ) is a German political activist .

Life and work

Alexander Trennheuser lives in Leverkusen with his wife and two children . He studied social sciences at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . After graduating as a qualified social scientist, he worked at Mehr Demokratie eV From 2007 he worked as a campaigner and confidante of the popular initiative Mehr Demokratie in Voting , which was passed to the state parliament in March 2008 with 72,000 valid votes. From 2002 to 2020, Trennheuser was the state manager of Mehr Demokratie in North Rhine-Westphalia , and since 2012 he has also been a member of the association's national board. Since May 2020 he has been the federal manager of Mehr Demokratie eV

Political work

Alexander Trennheuser's focus is on freedom of information , direct democracy and the free trade agreements TTIP and CETA .

Freedom of information
As the initiator of the NRW Alliance , Trennheuser is calling for a transparency law based on the Hamburg model. To this end, the alliance has been drafting bills, model statutes and background papers on the subject of freedom of information since 2012. Trennheuser is also a co-author of the transparency ranking , a cooperation project of the Open Knowledge Foundation and Mehr Demokratie.

Direct democracy
Trennheuser accompanied numerous direct democratic reforms in North Rhine-Westphalia , but also in Hesse , Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate as an expert in the state parliament . As an advisor to municipal citizens' initiatives and national popular initiatives , he has accompanied between 300 and 400 initiatives on various topics, mainly in North Rhine-Westphalia, over the past 10 years.

Free trade agreements CETA and TTIP
Against the free trade agreements CETA and TTIP , Trennheuser represented more democracy in numerous demonstration alliances. He was one of the organizers of several large-scale demonstrations, for example the demonstration in Hanover on April 23, 2016 with 90,000 participants.

In a study published in September 2016 , the Brussels think tank ECIPE declared Trennheuser to be number 17 of the 50 most influential opponents of TTIP and CETA in Germany due to its campaign against the free trade agreements .
