Alexander Valerjewitsch Gorbatikow ( Russian Александр Валерьевич Горбатиков ; born June 4, 1982 in Volgograd , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian handball player , who was mostly used in the back center position.

The 1.87 m tall and 95 kg heavy Gorbatikow began his professional career in 1999 at Dinamo Astrakhan . From 2001 to 2008 he was Russian runner-up behind Medvedi Chekhov , he also reached the final in the EHF Cup 2002/03 , but lost to FC Barcelona there . In the 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons he reached the semi-finals of the EHF Cup, but failed at THW Kiel and TUSEM Essen . In 2008 he won the Russian Cup. After several knee operations, he ended his career after the 2008/09 season.

With the Russian junior selection he won the European Junior Championship in 2001 and the U21 World Championship in 2001, scoring 9 goals in the final. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he won the bronze medal with the Russian national team .

Alexander Gorbatikov is a physical education teacher and a graduate of the Astrakhan State Pedagogical University. At the beginning of 2014 he carried the Olympic torch in Astrakhan ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi .
