Alexander Weber (born June 25, 1937 in Hanover ) is a German psychologist and professor emeritus in the field of education , psychology , and sport at the University of Paderborn .

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Weber initially completed a teaching degree from 1957 to 1960, then studied psychology at the universities of Braunschweig and Freiburg i. B. , which he graduated with a diploma in 1964. After several years of school service and the second state examination, he was a research assistant at the Pedagogical University of Westphalia-Lippe in Bielefeld from 1968 to 1974 . In the meantime he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat. in the subjects of psychology, education and zoology at the TU Braunschweig .

From 1974 to 2002 he was professor of educational science with a focus on empirical pedagogy / pedagogical psychology at the newly founded comprehensive university, later at the University of Paderborn . His main areas of work in research and teaching were teacher behavior, small group pedagogy, applied group dynamics and non-verbal communication.

Weber held numerous offices both inside and outside the university sector. Among other things, he was AStA chairman, chairman of the Lippe-West adult education center (1966 to 1975), vice dean and dean in Faculty 2 of the GH / Uni Paderborn, chairman of the academic examination office (1984 to 2002), chairman of the cooperation committee of the University of Paderborn / Musikhochschule Detmold (1988 to 2002) and board member of GGE (Society for Group Work in Education eV, 1979 to 1989). Since 1988 he has been chairman of the board and head of the German Running Therapy Center (DLZ) that he founded in the same year.

Weber has been the founder and publisher of the DLZ-Rundschau magazine since 1990 and its predecessor, the ZfL-Rundbrief (1988–1990). He is a scientific advisor to various specialist journals and magazines. He has published over 300 publications to date. He conducted around 500 lectures, seminars and workshops on the topics of physical exercise, stress control, lifestyle, group dynamics and body language running.

Running therapy

Since 1980, Weber designed running therapy based on the “Paderborn model”. In 1988 he founded the German Running Therapy Center eV (DLZ) based in Bad Lippspringe and is its chairman and director. Together with employees at the University of Paderborn, with educators and doctors in the DLZ environment, he developed concepts, guidelines and curricular specifications for the training and further education of running therapists, running pedagogues and running group leaders. Since 1991 over 800 people from all parts of the German-speaking area have been trained.

The running boom in the 1970s gave the impetus to weekend seminars with the title “Psychology of Running”, which Weber directed; The organizers were communal adult education centers in East Westphalia. These seminars in turn inspired him to design the "running encounter" and "communicative running". Since then, running workshops lasting several days have been held annually on the German North Sea coast under this main program.

He also designed tests for the systematic observation and evaluation of running shoes. The test reports are published regularly in magazines.

Weber's diverse engagements in the broad field of health-oriented running made him known above all in running circles, he was dubbed a "running professor" by the local press. He has been an active runner himself since 1968 and later also became a triathlete.
