Alexander Dmitrievich Wentzel

Alexander Dmitrijewitsch Wentzel ( Russian Александр Дмитриевич Вентцель , English transcription Alexander Dmitrievich Wentzell; born February 16, 1937 in Moscow ) is a Russian-American mathematician.

Wentzel studied at Lomonosov University with the degree in 1958 and received his doctorate in 1964 at the Steklow Institute in Moscow with Eugene Dynkin . He taught as a lecturer at Lomonossow University from 1961 and was assistant professor from 1966 to 1991. In 1984 he completed his habilitation at Lomonossow University (Russian doctorate). In 1991/92 he was visiting professor at the University of Maryland and 1992/93 at the University of Minnesota . Since 1993 he has been a professor at Tulane University .

He deals with stochastic processes, probability theory, functional analysis and partial differential equations.

In 1963 he received the Moscow Mathematical Society Prize . In 1978 he was invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Helsinki .
