Alexander Graf von Attems-Heiligenkreuz (born July 16, 1814 in Graz , † September 11, 1896 in Baden near Vienna ) was a private councilor and Austrian field marshal lieutenant .

Life

Alexander Graf von Attems -Heiligenkreuz was born as the son of Anton Graf von Attems-Heiligenkreuz (1787-1854) and Maria Countess v. Turn u Valsassina-Como-Vercelli (1785–1848) born. He graduated from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt . On February 12, 1840, he was knighted in the Church of the Order of Malta , later Bailli of the sovereign order. In 1848 he commanded as a captain in the Italian regiment Geppert No. 43 in Monza and, despite being injured, distinguished himself when he withdrew to Milan . He fought in 1848 in the Battle of Custozza (1848) and after battles in Volta. He was promoted to major in December 1850 and in 1857 to lieutenant colonel of the infantry. In 1866 he commanded the Inftanerie Regiment Prinz Hohenlohe No. 17 as colonel at the second battle of Custozza (1866) . On April 23, 1869 he was promoted to major general and on April 1, 1873 to the rank of field marshal lieutenant (Char. Ad hon . pens). In 1878 he took part in the invasion of Bosnia and Herzegovina . He was also the chief steward of Archduke Karl Salvator of Austria-Tuscany .
