Alexander von Schönborn (born February 10, 1924 in Sinzing , Regensburg district office; † December 25, 2011 in Riegsee , Upper Bavaria) was a German forest biologist. He was full professor for forest plant breeding and immission research at the Ludwig Maximilians University.

Life

Alexander von Schönborn passed his matriculation examination at the secondary school in Regensburg in 1942. He then took part in the Second World War as a pilot until 1945. From 1947 to 1951 he studied forest sciences at the University of Munich. In 1950 he became a member of the Corps Hercynia Munich . After the subsequent legal clerkship, he passed the Great Forest State Examination in 1954. In 1964 he was at the State Economic Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Münchenzum Dr. oec. publ. doctorate and later appointed professor at the Faculty of Forestry. He concentrated on forest seed science and forest plant breeding, from which essential approaches for resistance research and forest reproductive biology developed. Another focus was the investigation of pollutant emissions . He was a reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG) and significantly supported the orientation of forest science research. He headed the forest experimental garden in Grafrath and was chairman of the examination board of the forest science faculty of the University of Munich. He was buried in the cemetery in Eilsbrunn .
