Alexander von Schneider

Alexander von Schneider (born February 22, 1845 in Nördlingen , † May 20, 1909 in Garmisch ) was from 1896 to 1909 senior consistorial president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . Schneider was the only senior consistory president who was not a pastor.

Life and work

Schneider was born as the first son of eight children to a district doctor. After finishing school and after a short study period in Erlangen , he moved to Munich in 1862, where he received a scholarship at the Maximilianeum . In 1867 he completed his law studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1876 he was an employee of the cabinet secretary Friedrich von Ziegler (or in 1879/80 briefly Ludwig von Müller). From 1883 to 1886 Schneider himself was the cabinet secretary of King Ludwig II , and from January 1885 the rank of ministerial councilor. On June 1, 1886, the king transferred him to the Ministry of Finance, where he worked until 1896. From July 1, 1896 until his death, Schneider was president of the senior consistory. Schneider was buried on May 23, 1909 in Munich's north cemetery; his tomb was closed in 1989.

Awards

During his time as cabinet secretary, he received the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of Merit from St. Michael. In December 1884 he was raised to the personal nobility . The theological faculty of the University of Erlangen awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1908.

family

Schneider was married twice, both wives came from Nördlingen like himself. His first wife died shortly after the wedding in 1872. To his second wife, Florentin Rutz, whom he married on January 30, 1877, he wrote 375 letters preserved in his estate. From this marriage there were at least four children.
