Adolf Stählin , later Knight von Stählin , (born October 27, 1823 in Schmähingen , † May 4, 1897 in Munich ) was senior consistorial president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria .

Stählin studied Protestant theology and philosophy in Erlangen from 1840 to 1844 . During his studies he joined the student union Uttenruthia Erlangen in the winter semester of 1840/41 . He was vicar in Ostheim in 1847 and vicar in Aha near Gunzenhausen in 1849 . From 1850 to 1866 he was pastor in various Bavarian parishes, from 1866 to 1879 consistorial councilor in Ansbach and from 1879 to 1883 senior consistorial councilor in Munich. In 1880 he received an honorary doctorate from the theological faculty in Erlangen. In 1883 he was appointed senior consistorial president by King Ludwig II and held this office until 1896.

His sermons were printed many times and were widely used. In addition, he also dealt with questions of church history and church law, for example with Justin the Martyr (1880) and Philipp Melanchthon (1897).

As the eldest of 14 children of the pastor Martin Stählin (1781–1855) and Ida Brack (1796–1885), Stählin was a member of a well-known family of theologians and scholars. One of his sisters was the superior of Neuendettelsau Therese Stählin , his nephews include the theologian and bishop Wilhelm Stählin and the classical philologist Otto Stählin .
