Johann Matthias Meyer , later Knight von Meyer , (born June 28, 1814 in Ansbach , † September 15, 1882 in Munich ) was a German Protestant clergyman and senior consistorial president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria .
Life
Meyer was the son of a butcher . He graduated from the Carolinum grammar school (Ansbach) . From 1833 to 1837 he studied Protestant theology at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen . In 1835 he was in the Corps Onoldia recipiert . After he had completed his studies with an excellent exam, he was admitted to the Preachers' Seminar in Munich in 1837/1838 . His ordination took place in Munich in June 1839 .
Meyer was appointed permanent vicar of the new and longed-for parish of Dombühl on October 30, 1839 , and was solemnly introduced to the office on January 5, 1840. In late 1843, however, he left Dombühl again because it Prefect of the School Teachers' College of Schwabach was appointed. Here he gathered specialist knowledge about the school system that he could use in his further career. Nevertheless, he returned to the parish pastoral care in 1844 as the third parish priest in Nördlingen . In the following year, 1845, he rose to the position of second parish priest and was also sub-principal of the Nördlinger Latin School. During this time he was promoted to D. theol. et phil. PhD .
Meyer followed a call in 1949 as second pastor to the Evangelical City Church in Munich . He was considered a good preacher and was also known for his humor. In 1855 he rose to the position of first pastor and dean of Munich. He also became a district school inspector and district scholarch . The Munich community grew quickly and Meyer got next to his offices the board of Upper Bavaria comprehensive diocese transferred.
Meyer was appointed senior consistorial councilor in 1872 and thus became a member of the royal senior consistory in Munich. On January 1, 1879, he was raised to the position of senior consistorial president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria as a complete surprise . This position corresponds to that of the regional bishop today. She brought him to the Reichsrat (Bavaria) . In 1881 he headed the General Synod in Bayreuth . He was increasingly shaped by illness. He finally died after only a short term in office at the age of 68.
