Alexandra von der Weth (* 1968 in Coburg ) is a German opera singer ( soprano ) and voice coach .

Life

Private

Alexandra von der Weth completed her school days at the Albertinum grammar school (music grammar school) in Coburg; there she also received singing lessons. She then studied singing at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich from 1987 to 1991 and graduated in 1992.

Career

In the early 1990s she successfully took part in several singing competitions (including the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft in the BDI).

She made her debut at the Leipzig Opera House in 1993 as Schöne in André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry's Beauty and the Beast. At the Deutsche Oper Berlin she sang the role of Blanche in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites and Gretel in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel in 1994/1995 as part of a grant . In 1996 she joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as a member of the ensemble . In 1999 she appeared at the Vienna State Opera as Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème , and in 2001 she sang at the Metropolitan Opera . In 2001 she received the sponsorship award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for young artists . Other roles at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein included the title roles in Alban Berg's Lulu and Bellini's Norma . She also appeared at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera , the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London.

In 2003, at the height of her career, the voice of Alexandra von Weth suddenly broke down. After a longer treatment phase, she was able to cure her vocal cords again. Her first appearance after speech therapy was in 2005 as Erifile in Alessandro Scarlatti's opera Telemaco at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In the following seasons she sang the part of Pamina from Mozart's Magic Flute and the Contessa from Le nozze di Figaro . In 2008 Cleopatra followed in Handel's Giulio Cesare at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. She sang the same role in 2010 at the Theater Dortmund .

Alexandra von der Weth has been intensively concerned with voice training not only since her healing phase. In October 2010 she founded the Institute for Voice Training in the Center for Outpatient Medicine in Wuppertal . In 2012, Alexandra von der Weth told Christoph Schulte im Walde about her voice crisis and how she had overcome it.

She has been a concert organizer and presenter since 2016. Your lecture concert series “Music and Psyche” began on September 29, 2016 in Düsseldorf.
