Alexandria is a town in the West Dunbartonshire region of Scotland on the banks of Loch Lomond . The city is located on Leven about six kilometers north of Dumbarton and 25 kilometers northwest of Glasgow .

history

The city was founded at the beginning of the 18th century. From 1836 a bridge over the Leven connected Alexandria with Bonhill . The city grew with industrialization, including the textile industry, and between 1905 and 1913 was the location of the Argyll Motors Company , which operated the largest automobile production site in Europe. Since 1966, operates Loch Lomond Distillery Company , the Whiskey Distillery Loch Lomond in Alexandria. In 2011 Alexandria had 13,054 inhabitants.

Alexandria is on the A82 which connects Glasgow to Inverness . There are regular rail links to Glasgow and Dumbarton, making the city attractive for commuters.
