Alfons Holte (born May 29, 1923 in Solingen ; † February 8, 2013 there ) was a German opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Alfons Holte completed an apprenticeship as an electrician. As a child he sang in a choir, and his extraordinary talent was noticed. At first he sang part-time at company and family parties. He spent his military service in the Second World War at Kirkenes Airport in Finland , where he acquired specialist knowledge of radio systems and wiretapping systems, but also performed in entertainment programs.

After the war, Holte prepared for the master's examination , which he finally passed successfully, but at the same time took singing lessons with Gertrud Asteroth and dramatic lessons with Emil Treskow . When the British occupation authorities wanted him to go to work in the United Kingdom because of the special knowledge he had acquired during the war , he let the Solingen theater hire him as a singer to avoid it. In 1951 he went to the Düsseldorf Opera and in the following years also made numerous appearances abroad. His specialty was the German opera, one of his brilliant roles the Harlequin in Ariadne auf Naxos . Until the beginning of the 1990s, Holte was on stage; his last role in Düsseldorf was Colonel Pickering in My Fair Lady .
