Alfons III (Aragon)
Alfons III of Aragón , called the Magnificent (* 1265 ; † June 18, 1291 in Barcelona ), was King of Aragon from 1285 to 1291 .
Alfons III was the son of Peter III. and the Constance of Sicily . He granted the estates at the Diet of Saragossa in 1287 the so-called union privileges, according to which the estates could elect another lord if the king imposed penalties on a member of the estates without a judicial ruling by the imperial assembly. In order to restore calm to the outside world, he made peace with France at Brignoles in 1291 , but soon died unmarried and childless and left the throne to his brother James II .
