Alfons Kist

Alfons Josef Kist (born March 19, 1913 in Neusatzeck ; † February 10, 1986 in Baden-Baden ) was a German economist , administrative officer and CDU politician .

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Alfons Kist began studying economics at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , which he completed in 1938 with a doctorate . From 1939 to 1943 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier and was discharged from service at the end of 1943 due to a serious war injury that he suffered in Russia.

Until his election as mayor of the city of Bühl in 1948, he worked in the administration of the ABB company and as a teacher at the grammar school in Sasbach (Baden).

After the war, Alfons Kist got involved in building democracy early on. He was one of the co-founders of the Badisch Christian Social People's Party (BCSV) from which the CDU Baden later emerged. Alfons Kist belonged to the Christian-social wing of the CDU. In 1946/47 he was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of Baden and was a member of the Baden State Parliament from 1947 to 1952 .

In 1948 Alfons Kist was elected mayor of the city of Bühl (Baden). He held this office until 1957. After various activities in the administration, he was sent to Brussels in 1959 as Director of the Commission of the European Atomic Energy Community (later the European Communities). He was a member of the commission until his retirement. After his retirement, Alfons Kist devoted himself intensively to homeland and family research.
