Stumbling block on the house, Fürstenweg 2, in Berlin-Hakenfelde

Alfons Loewe (born December 30, 1868 in Rogasen ; † December 28, 1938 ) was a German lawyer and notary.

Life

Loewe was admitted to the bar in 1896, settled as a young lawyer in the city of Spandau (from 1920 Berlin-Spandau ) and had his practice directly on the Spandauer Markt in the house of the Adler pharmacy.

There he worked for 41 years as a lawyer and later also as a notary in Berlin-Spandau until October 1937. Among other things, he oversaw the emigration of the Sternberg family, who owned Jewish department stores, and acted as a lawyer for the last community leader, Louis Salomon. Because of his merits, he was appointed to the judiciary. In 1933 his notary's office was withdrawn from him by the National Socialists. Until the Reich Minister of Justice withdrew his license to practice as a lawyer in October 1938, he tried to run the practice of an emigrated Jewish lawyer in Charlottenburg for another year. He chose suicide.

Loewe had been married to Katharina Diedrich, daughter of an evangelical manor from Magdeburg, since 1918.

In his honor, a street in Berlin-Spandau (previously Straße 342 in West Staaken ) was named after him on February 1, 1999 . An official ceremony was held on October 27, 1999 in connection with this. The chairman of the Jewish Community in Berlin , Dr. Andreas Nachama , Spandau's Mayor Konrad Birkholz and City Councilor Thomas Scheunemann took part.

On February 10, 2016 , a stumbling block was laid in front of his former place of residence, Berlin-Hakenfelde , Fürstenweg 2 .
