Alfons Nicodemus Heinrich Ritgen

Alfons Nicodemus Heinrich Ritgen (born August 20, 1820 in Mühlberg an der Elbe , † November 13, 1879 in Grünhof (Regenwalde district) ) was the royal Prussian major general and most recently in command of the Kolberg Fortress .

His parents were the lieutenant colonel a. D. Wilhelm Karl Clemens Ritgen (* October 2, 1789; † November 16, 1863) and his wife Friderike Hermine Luise von Derschau (* August 10, 1791; † July 25, 1826).

Life

He received his education first at the city school in Treptow an der Rega and then at the grammar school in Thorn . After his graduation he became Ulan on September 1, 1837 in the 6th Ulan Regiment. There he was promoted to portepeef ensign on January 12, 1838, and to second lieutenant on January 13, 1841. From October 1, 1844 to September 30, 1847 he was assigned to the General War School . After his return he took part in the fight against the Baden Revolution , he fought near Kirchheim-Bolanden, Wiesenthal, Neudorf, Durlach and Kuppenheim. After his return he was posted to the Topographical Office from June 1, 1852 to February 28, 1855 , during which time he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on July 8, 1854. On his return he was transferred to the United Division School of the 7th and 8th Divisions as a teacher. He was from September 1, 1857 to October 1, 1857 squad leader in the 6th Landwehr Uhlan Regiment. He returned to school and on September 1, 1858, was reassigned to the 6th Landwehr Uhlan Regiment as a squadron leader. There he was promoted to Rittmeister on February 12, 1859, on June 1, 1859, he was transferred to the 6th Uhlan Regiment as leader of the replacement squadron. As early as September 6, 1859, he came as a teacher at the war school in Erfurt and was placed à la suite for the regiment. With the provisional retention of his command, he was appointed squadron chief on July 7, 1860. On September 4, 1860, he was released from his command on September 30, 1860.

During the German War of 1866 he fought near Liebenau , Münchengrätz , Pressburg and Königgrätz . On October 30, 1866, he was promoted to major and on November 14, 1867, he was transferred to the 4th Uhlan Regiment as a regular staff officer.

During the Franco-Prussian War he fought at Gravelotte , the Siege of Metz and the skirmishes at Jury and Mercy near Metz. On September 10, 1870, he was entrusted with the management of business as the commandant of Sedan . For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on October 10, 1870 .

While temporarily remaining in his war position, he was aggregated into the 4th Uhlan Regiment on April 4, 1871 . On June 29, 1871 he was then director of the war school in Hanover, and he was placed à la suite of the 4th Uhlan Regiment. There he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on August 18, 1871, and on December 4, 1871, leaving his position a la suite of the general staff. On March 22, 1872, he was promoted to colonel. On July 21, 1876, he was transferred to Kolberg as commandant, remaining a la suite of the general staff. On September 8, 1877 he was put up for disposal with the character of major general and pension . He died unmarried on November 13, 1879 in Grünhof (Regenwalde district).
