Alfonso Marra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alfonso Ignazio Marra (born November 20, 1938 in Cicerale ( Province of Salerno )) is an Italian judge. In 2010 he was President of the Corte d'appello di Milano (Milan Court of Appeal) and previously President of the Corte d'appello di Brescia .

Marra was questioned by the Supreme Judge Council ( Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura ) in July 2010, temporarily suspended by it on July 16, 2010 and finally resigned on October 21, 2010. The accusation was that he had only come into office through pressure from the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice Nicola Cosentino and the coordinator of the ruling party Popolo della Libertà , Denis Verdini , to influence two ongoing trials against Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi . According to his own statement, his resignation serves to better counter these allegations.
